Swim
(1/3mile): Starting on the beach at Spring Point Head
Light, athletes will do a counterclockwise triangular swim
in a protected ocean cove that finishes on the very same
beach, just steps from transition! Average water temperature
in early August is 62 degrees.
**WETSUITS: Due to chilly
water temperatures, wetsuits are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for
the swim.

Transition:
Transition will be located on the fields of the SMCC
Campus. After your swim there will be a mini
transition area set up for you to take off your
wetsuit and put on your running shoes so that you
can take a short run up Fort Road to the NEW bike
transition area! Prior to the race, an official MUST check
your bike and helmet. Volunteers will be available
to do body marking. |

During the
race, volunteers will be on site to help direct you
in and out of transition. We
ask that you exercise extreme caution while entering
and exiting the transition area during the race to
keep it safe for all athletes.

Bike (12 miles):
The
NEW bike loop will take you through portions of
South Portland and Cape Elizabeth. This will be a
gently rolling course along beautifully maintained
urban roads. To be announced soon! Run (3.0 miles): This loop is
arguably the most amazing tri runs in all of New England!
The run will start at transition and go along the marina
from Spring Point Head Light to Bug Head Light. The path
will meander through Bug Head Light Park, and take you
within inches of the lighthouse before turning back towards
campus. A connector path will lead athletes to the perimeter
of the SMCC campus. Athletes will meet up with an amazing
oceanfront path that will provide stunning ocean views and
lead to an unforgettable finish! |

| Duathlon (1.5 mile
run/12-15 mile bike/3.0 mile run): The duathlon
is being offered for those athletes who choose to
not do the swim portion of the race. It will consist
of a shorter run, complete bike course, and complete
run. The duathlon will start just minutes after the
start of the first swim wave. |

Relay (triathlon ONLY):
Relays may be made up of two or three members. Each team
member will complete one or two legs of the race. Each team
will have one timing chip.
USAT Sanctioned: Tri for a
Cure will be a USAT sanctioned event. There will be
officials at transition and throughout the racecourse;
making sure that all USAT rules are followed in accordance
with their guidelines. If you are not familiar with these
rules, please go to

and scroll down to “Rules.” This page will also provide
valuable information on race etiquette, training, and
membership.
Field Limited: Tri for a Cure
is limited to 600 athletes.
Registration: Registration
will be offered online ONLY. Registration will start
at 12:01am February 1, 2009. Online
registration will allow you to receive e-mail updates on the
event and is strongly encouraged for both individual
athletes and relay teams. All athletes are required to sign
the USAT waiver which is done automatically when you
register online.
- Individual athletes –
when registering online, please choose the appropriate
registration type. Non USAT members pay an additional
fee of $10 when registering to become a one day member.
- Relay Teams – when
registering online, the first person to register from
the relay team will create a team name. The other team
participants will select “join a relay team” and search
for the team name to join and follow the process. All
members of the relay MUST register in order to compete
in the race. Each member must choose the appropriate
registration type determined by the USAT membership
status.
Packet Pick-Up & Expo:
Packet pick-up and the expo will take place on Saturday August 8th
from 10am-2pm, at the SMCC campus. Packet pick-up will also be available from
8-9am on race day at the race
venue. We STRONGLY recommend checking in on Saturday to avoid
any delays. All athletes, including relay team members, must
be present to check in on one of the two days provided.
Athletes MUST provide a picture ID (and current USAT card if
registered as a member). If you registered as a member of
USAT and fail to bring your current membership card with you
to check in, you will have to pay the $10 one-day member fee
when you check in. USAT waivers will be available for any
athlete that does not have one on file. Athletes will
receive a packet with numbered swim cap, race number and
timing chip. Athletes will also receive a goody bag filled
with various items along with a race t-shirt. The expo will
provide a wonderful opportunity for athletes to purchase
last minute race items and learn more about tri related
products and services.
Relay Packet Pick-Up: We encourage ALL
team members to check in as a team on Saturday, August 8th at
the SMCC Campus. Each team member MUST present a picture
ID (and current USAT card if they registered as a USAT
member). Any team member that registered as a USAT member
and fails to bring a current membership card to check in,
will be required to purchase a one-day license for $10. The
swimmer will take the cap and timing chip. The runner will
take the race number. ALL members of the relay MUST register
in order for the relay to compete in the race. Check in will
be available at the race venue on Saturday from 6-7am for
those team members unable to make it on Friday night. Each
team member will receive a goody bag and t-shirt.
Refund Policy:
Maine Cancer Foundation is a registered (501)(c)(3)
organization. There will be no refunds for this event,
registrations, wait lists and are closed at this time. Your
registration is NON TRANSFERRABLE!
Inclement Weather: Tri for a
Cure will not be cancelled for any reason other than severe
conditions that pose extreme danger to athletes and
volunteers. Race management reserves the right to alter the
course in any way they deem is in the best interest of the
athletes and volunteers. This includes, but is not limited
to, shortening or changing the course, removing one of the
sports, postponing the start, etc. There will be NO REFUNDS
in the case of changes or cancellations due to weather. If
canceled, Tri for a Cure will not be rescheduled.
Post-Race Activities: After
the race, we will have a food tent for athletes free of
charge. For spectators there food items and drinks
available for purchase from the South Portland Rotary. Spectators will enjoy the beautiful
scenery and can cheer the women to the finish line. A
post-race party along with an awards ceremony will be held
after the last athlete finishes the race. In addition, we
will have a super raffle! Don’t forget to purchase your
raffle tickets at the event.

Awards/Categories: Everyone is a
winner at Tri for a Cure! Each athlete will be presented
with an award upon crossing the finish line.
Awards will be given in for the following categories in the
race:
- Top 3 Survivors
- Top 3 Overall Women
- Top 3 Women in each Age Group
(19 & under and every 5 years up to 60+)
- Top 3 Overall Duathlon
- Top 3 Overall Relays
Recognition will be given for the
following:
- Most Valuable Volunteer
- Best Supportive Sign Created by
a Child
- Best Event Photo – We want your
